How the headline share is counted: 5.8% is residents who named a language other than English, as a share of everyone. Another 37 didn't answer the question. Counting them as speaking another language would give 14.7%; leaving them out of the population altogether gives 6.3%. Higher figures quoted elsewhere usually come from one of those.
Figures for Wagait itself aren't affected by the small gap between summed suburbs and ABS national totals. Unnamed ABS categories are in every total and out of every ranked list.
