Peterborough, South Australia
Tagalog is the most common language after English in Peterborough, though only one in 60 residents speak anything other than English at home, the 2021 Census found. Only 86 councils have a lower share. Five years earlier, the count was more than a fifth lower.
The largest communities are small, but they're here: Tagalog, German and Punjabi.
The national share is more than twice as high as Peterborough's. Peterborough is 52nd of 70 across South Australia.
Every figure leaves unanswered questions out of the count, so the areas compare like for like.
The suburb names link through to their own figures.
Figures come from the ABS Census of Population and Housing 2021 (language used at home), aggregated from Statistical Area Level 2 to Local Government Area, with 2016 for comparison.
The headline 1.6% counts only residents who named a language other than English. 225 people left the question blank; treat every blank as another language and the figure is 15.3%, while measuring only those who answered gives 1.9%.
Ranked lists skip broad categories such as "Chinese, nfd", which stay in the totals. National figures are summed from suburbs and sit a touch under the ABS release.
