French is the most common language after English in Kingston, though only one in 70 residents speak anything other than English at home, the 2021 Census found. German is close behind, within a fifth of the leader's total. It's in the bottom 100 of 542 local government areas for language diversity.
None of these reaches one in 100 residents on its own.
In the City of Adelaide, a language other than English is at least twice as common. In the South Australia table, Kingston is 51st of 70.
Share of residents speaking a language other than English at home, by the same method for every area.

Figures come from the ABS Census of Population and Housing 2021 (language used at home), aggregated from Statistical Area Level 2 to Local Government Area, with 2016 for comparison.
The headline 1.4% counts only residents who named a language other than English. 136 people left the question blank; treat every blank as another language and the figure is 7.3%, while measuring only those who answered gives 1.5%.
National totals here run slightly under ABS published figures, because summing suburbs misses people without a usual address. Broad ABS categories count in the totals but not in the ranked lists.
