Indigo, Victoria
Italian is the most common language after English in Indigo, though only one in 70 residents speak anything other than English at home, the 2021 Census found. On its own, no other language reaches one in 100. Only 94 councils have a lower share.
Small as they are, Italian, German and Auslan are the largest.
The national share is more than twice as high as Indigo's. In the Victoria table, Indigo is 78th of 79.
Every figure leaves unanswered questions out of the count, so the areas compare like for like.
The share barely changes across 17 suburbs; Beechworth is highest.

Figures come from the ABS Census of Population and Housing 2021 (language used at home), aggregated from Statistical Area Level 2 to Local Government Area, with 2016 for comparison.
1.5% is the share of all residents who reported a language other than English. The 1,057 who didn't answer aren't counted as speakers. If they were, the share would be 7.8%; among respondents alone it's 1.6%.
Language lists name languages only; residual ABS groups are in the totals. Summed-suburb national totals run a little low.
