Esperance, Western Australia
The 2021 Census found one in 25 residents in Esperance speaking a language other than English at home, a small community in which Afrikaans is the largest group. Not one of them is spoken by as many as one in 100 people. Esperance's share is less than half the share for Western Australia.
None of these reaches one in 100 residents on its own.
In the City of Perth, the share speaking another language is more than double. In the Western Australia table, Esperance is 73rd of 137.
Share of residents speaking a language other than English at home, by the same method for every area.
Even across 16 suburbs, the shares stay within a narrow band, led by West Beach.
The suburb names link through to their own figures.
Figures come from the ABS Census of Population and Housing 2021 (language used at home), aggregated from Statistical Area Level 2 to Local Government Area, with 2016 for comparison.
3.7% is the share of all residents who reported a language other than English. The 1,436 who didn't answer aren't counted as speakers. If they were, the share would be 14.1%; among respondents alone it's 4.1%.
National totals here run slightly under ABS published figures, because summing suburbs misses people without a usual address. Broad ABS categories count in the totals but not in the ranked lists.
