Port Augusta, South Australia
At the 2021 Census, one in 17 residents in Port Augusta spoke a language other than English at home, and Adnymathanha was the leading First Nations language among them. The quickest climber in the top five is Punjabi, which has grown by more than half since 2016. Nationally, the share speaking another language is more than double.
Adnymathanha is the largest, followed by Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara. They're the home languages of many people here who don't speak English at home.
The ABS’s own post-enumeration survey found the census missed a much larger share of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people than of the population overall, so counts here are best read as a floor.
In the City of Adelaide, the share speaking another language is more than double. Among 70 councils in South Australia, Port Augusta is 31st.
Each bar uses the same count: residents who named another home language, over all residents.

5.7% is the share of all residents who reported a language other than English. The 1,667 who didn't answer aren't counted as speakers. If they were, the share would be 17.9%; among respondents alone it's 6.5%.
Language lists name languages only; residual ABS groups are in the totals. Summed-suburb national totals run a little low.
