Data: ABS Census of Population and Housing 2021, language used at home, summed from Statistical Area Level 2 to council. Changes are against the 2016 Census.
How the headline share is counted: 2.4% is residents who named a language other than English, as a share of everyone. Another 1,926 didn't answer the question. Counting them as speaking another language would give 9.9%; leaving them out of the population altogether gives 2.6%. Higher figures quoted elsewhere usually come from one of those.
Figures for Mid-Western itself aren't affected by the small gap between summed suburbs and ABS national totals. Unnamed ABS categories are in every total and out of every ranked list.
