A notarized translation is a translated document that has been notarized by a Notary Public. A Notary Public is usually a professional lawyer with 12 to 15 years experience who has met certain criteria in becoming an official Notary Public in Singapore.
As proof of notarization, the Notary Public will witness and authenticate the required documents by signing, providing a statement with a ribbon and seal, known as the notarial certificate, which will accompany the translation.
As an impartial officer, the Notary Public’s duty in notarizing is the same as swearing under oath in a court of law.
A notary is a public officer responsible for authenticating the acts on behalf of his clients whereby he issues a Notarial Certificate and a Notarial Seal. At the same time, while a Notary Public acts as an impartial officer, in some instances, he may also have a role in enforcing court judgements and offering legal advice.
His functions include notarizing things like;
IOUs
Wills.
A real estate sale
A marriage contract
A title deed
A division of property or an estate
An act of inheritance
To this end, given the extra legal dimension involved in the notarization of documents, ensure that the official notary public in question is authorized to perform those duties so as not to be a victim of an improper notarization.
In singapore, to find this out is quite simple since Notaries Public must be qualified lawyers appointed by a Board of Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public (who must be registered at the State Court).
For documents not in English, Singaporean government agencies will often demand a notarized or a certified translation.
Notarized translation services are required for most Singaporean government departments such as the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Ministry of Manpower (MoM), Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), amongst others.
It is the Singapore Government’s method of ensuring translations are carried out truthfully, void of fraud and professionally in an official capacity.

You will receive your full money back; if a Singaporean Government department has asked you for a notarised translation; and you translate with Lexigo; and your translation was not accepted.
In the highly unlikely event your translation was not accepted, Lexigo will need to speak directly to the relevant Government Department to attempt to make any necessary amendments for acceptance and confirm why the translation was not accepted. The notarization fees charged for notarized translation services are completely independent of Lexigo. These charges are set by the Singapore Academy of Law and are fees that go directly to the Notary Public.
We’re always looking for ways to save on time and costs through our own smart technology, and pass those savings on to our customers.
Unlike traditional translation agencies, Lexigo can provide translations cheaper, faster and at scale by eliminating common manual processes involved in translation and notarisation that you would usually pay a premium for.
